Mountain Dew Jelly Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups Mountain Dew soda
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- 1 box powdered fruit pectin (about 1.75 oz)
- Green food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare Canning Jars:
- Sterilize canning jars and lids by placing them in boiling water. Keep them hot until ready to use.
- Cook the Jelly:
- In a large saucepan, combine Mountain Dew and powdered fruit pectin. Stir until the pectin is dissolved.
- Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over high heat, stirring constantly.
- Add Sugar:
- Add the granulated sugar all at once, stirring to dissolve completely.
- Return the mixture to a rolling boil and boil hard for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Remove from Heat:
- Remove the saucepan from heat and skim off any foam with a metal spoon.
- Add Food Coloring (Optional):
- If desired, stir in a few drops of green food coloring to achieve the desired color.
- Fill Jars:
- Ladle the hot jelly into hot sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace.
- Seal Jars:
- Wipe the jar rims clean with a damp cloth and place the lids on the jars.
- Process in Water Bath:
- Process the jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes. Adjust the processing time for your altitude if necessary.
- Cool and Store:
- Remove the jars from the water bath and let them cool completely on a towel-lined countertop.
- Check the seals after 24 hours. The lids should not flex when the center is pressed.
- Store the sealed jars in a cool, dark place for up to 1 year.
