Recipe: Mushroom Puff Pastry Bites
Introduction: These delicious mushroom puff pastry bites are a perfect savory appetizer or snack for any occasion. The flaky, buttery puff pastry complements the earthy flavor of mushrooms, making them an irresistible treat. The addition of thyme brings a hint of freshness, balancing the richness of the mushrooms.
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 200g mushrooms (cremini or button), sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- Fresh thyme leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into squares or rectangles, depending on your desired bite size. Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Cook the Mushrooms: In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, sautéing until softened. Add the mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture and start to brown, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and a few sprigs of fresh thyme. Stir occasionally.
- Assemble the Bites: Spoon the mushroom mixture onto the center of each puff pastry square. If desired, drizzle with a little olive oil for added richness.
- Bake: Place the tray in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden and crispy.
- Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and garnish with additional fresh thyme. Serve warm and enjoy!
