Mushroom Puff Pastry Bites

Recipe: Mushroom Puff Pastry Bites

Introduction: These delicious mushroom puff pastry bites are a perfect savory appetizer or snack for any occasion. The flaky, buttery puff pastry complements the earthy flavor of mushrooms, making them an irresistible treat. The addition of thyme brings a hint of freshness, balancing the richness of the mushrooms.

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 200g mushrooms (cremini or button), sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into squares or rectangles, depending on your desired bite size. Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  3. Cook the Mushrooms: In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, sautéing until softened. Add the mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture and start to brown, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and a few sprigs of fresh thyme. Stir occasionally.
  4. Assemble the Bites: Spoon the mushroom mixture onto the center of each puff pastry square. If desired, drizzle with a little olive oil for added richness.
  5. Bake: Place the tray in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden and crispy.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and garnish with additional fresh thyme. Serve warm and enjoy!
