Ingredients

2 pounds chuck steak

2 cups beef broth

2 tablespoons onion gravy mix

1 tablespoon beef bouillon powder

1 clove minced garlic

4 tablespoons ketchup

2 tablespoons butter

4 tablespoons barbecue sauce

3 quartered onions

1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper, to taste

Flour and oil for browning

For the Dumplings:

1 cup self-rising flour

1 tablespoon butter

2 tablespoons milk

1 egg

Preparation

Coat the diced chuck steak in seasoned flour and brown in a frying pan with a bit of oil.

In another pan, melt butter and cook onions and garlic until translucent.

In the slow cooker, mix beef broth, bouillon powder, Italian seasoning, ketchup, barbecue sauce, and a tablespoon of flour. Add the browned meat and cooked onions.

Cook on high for 5 hours. Add onion gravy mix towards the end for desired gravy thickness.

For Dumplings: With 45 minutes remaining, prepare the dumplings. Rub butter into self-rising flour, then add milk and beaten egg. Mix, knead, and form into small balls. Submerge them in the gravy in the slow cooker, and cook for 30-40 minutes.
